AdvancedMicroSensors Provides MR Tape Head Components for Quantum's New, High PerformingSDLT600 Tape Drive
SHREWSBURY, MA -- February 2, 2004 -- Advanced MicroSensors, Inc. (AMS), an establishedsupplier of magneto-resistive (MR) tape heads and Micro-Electro-MechanicalSystems (MEMS) related products, announced today that it has successfullycompleted qualification and is providing, with Lafe Technology Ltd., the MRtape heads for Quantum Corporation's SDLT 600 tape drives.
AMS, a developer andmanufacturer of advanced thin-film components and its strategic partner, LafeTechnology Ltd., who provides post wafer processing, assembly, and packaging, are collaborating to produce MR tape heads for data storage applications.
"AMS is a valued supplierof DLTtape components and we are pleased to work together to extend the standardof storage technology innovation in our SDLT 600 tape drives," said DougMitchell, director of supply chain management for Quantum's storage devicesbusiness unit. "SDLT 600 tape drives provide industry-leading performanceand capacity for the mid-range market, and further demonstrate the innovationthat customers expect from Quantum to help them store their business-criticalinformation safely and reliably."
"Doubling the number of read/write channels on theSDLT 600 head has helped Quantum to increase the transfer rate to 72 MB/s(compressed)," said Dr. Gunther Baubock, vice president of engineering ofAdvanced MicroSensors. "AMS will continue its investments in technology andmanufacturing to be prepared for the technical requirements of the next drivegeneration."
"We are proud to be a part of Quantum's success andleadership in the super drive market," said Ken Martin, director of tapehead programs of Advanced MicroSensors. "Qualification of our headcomponents in the SDLT 600 drive is a result of engineering teamwork between AMS,Lafe and Quantum."
